Course Overview

Introduction to bioinformatics database search and pattern discovery from various biomedical databases including DNA, drugs, phenotype and protein databases such as GenBank and Swiss-Prot, with applications in both research and medical practice.

What You Will Learn

• Navigate and query major biomedical databases (GenBank, Swiss-Prot, PDB)
• Perform sequence similarity searches using BLAST and FASTA
• Understand biological data formats (FASTA, GenBank, PDB)
• Apply pattern discovery algorithms to biological sequences
• Interpret database search results for research applications

Basic understanding of molecular biology. No programming experience required.
